Viśuddha is the gateway of supreme purification. Located at the base of the neck, it presides over the Space element (Ākāśa Tattva), the subtle matrix through which sound vibration (śabda) propagates across the cosmos.

The Sixteen Vowels of Sanskrit

The sixteen petals of the Vishuddha lotus correspond precisely to the sixteen Sanskrit vowels (svaras), representing the musical and phonetic foundation of all sacred mantra. In Tantric cosmography, nectar (amṛta) drips down from the higher centers and is purified in Vishuddha, transmuting worldly poison into spiritual clarity.

Jālandhara Bandha (The Throat Lock)

Jālandhara Bandha is the essential physical and energetic lock of Viśuddha. By tucking the chin firmly into the jugular notch (jugular fossa) while keeping the chest elevated during breath retention (kumbhaka), the 16 subtle nadis of the neck are compressed. This halts the downward fall and destruction of Amṛta (lunar nectar) into the digestive gastric fire below.

Classical Siddhis & Elemental Mastery (Ākāśa Siddhi)

According to the Ṣaṭ-Cakra-Nirūpaṇa (Verse 31) and Śiva Saṁhitā (5.90–95):
